Ok, so here I am thinking about my digital portfolio. By Tuesday, I hope to bring a rough draft to the group.


Will the portfolio be created on a mobile me blog? Maybe a blogger blog?


I am wondering about the artifacts to include. The current list includes:


delicious-social bookmarking site: delicious.com/jjaffee

family podcast project

poetry project, haiuku, what media?voicethread.com

peace project, community unit, peace pals, what media?wiki


I will have to check on my notes and add to this on-line thinking process.


Where will Saywire fit into all of this?


What will I attach to my School Center, SMS blog?

  1. OK, up and running. According to Kathi Yancey, one acceptable way to use a blog is by blogging to think on the page! This first post, in fact, is such a composition. Here, I will experiment with adding my class notes from Kathi's presentation at the Fordham Summer Literacy Institute 2009. It seems that I may not be able to attach in a reply post? I'll try "Create a Link" below. Nope, it would only work if my lecture notes were posted on the web. So much learning. It's all pretty interesting to me, though.

  2. How digital, I am composing this reply onto the blog from my iPhone on the bus! I have decided to keep this one thread on the blog for my own thinking or musing about the project. I read over my written notes and will, certainly not limit myself to tecno-gadgets for the writing process.

    The purpose of the project is to show how I will meet certain standards: NETS Teacher Standards at SMS. The Farmers' Market is another "educational" setting, but to streamline, I think I stick with my "day job."

    I may set up a thread for each standard summarized below:

    real world issues and authentic problems

    model collaborative knowledge construction with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments

    design or adapt experience using digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity

    show fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations

    model and facilitate digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate and use information resources to support research and learning

    evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice to make effective use of tools and resources in support of student learning

    The portfolio must also include a reflection addressing:

    own experiences with 21st century literacies and technologies as teacher and learner/ what challenges and opportunities have I experienced that have impacted my ability to teach 21st century literacies?

    Description/ analysis of current teaching situation and practices/how are 21st century literacies being addressed in your classroom and school?

    Plan for integrating 21st century literacies in the future

    So, there it is in a nut shell, a rather large nut shell. Speaking of nuts, humor must play a role in this portfolio project!
